World record for Mighty Texas Dog Walk

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thousands of dogs and their "humans" turned out on Saturday morning for the annual Mighty Texas Dog Walk.

And the effort will be immortalized in the Guiness Book of World Records.

The record? Most fur ever collected. Walk organizers gathered up some 201 pounds of the stuff.

Technically speaking, they didn't break a record because no one had ever petitioned Guiness for recognition in this category before this year's dog walk.

They also tried to break the world record for most dogs walked most dogs sitting at once? and most dogs wearing the same bandana.

But organizers say they fell short in every category -- except for the fur.

The Mighty Texas dog walk is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Texas Hearing And Service Dogs.

"What we do what we do is get dogs from shelters, train them for people with disabilities free of charges, so the Mighty Texas Dog Walk helps raise money for our training program," said Sheri Soltes, the service dog organization's president.
