The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) District 508, is the largest community college system in Illinois and one of the largest in the nation, with 5,800 faculty and staff serving 120,000 students at seven campuses and thirteen satellite sites city-wide. The City Colleges of Chicago is currently in the midst of a collaborative effort to review and revise CCC programs and practices to ensure students leave CCC college-ready, career-ready and prepared to pursue their life's goals.
CCC includes seven colleges: Richard J. Daley College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive-Harvey College, Harry S Truman College, Harold Washington College and Wilbur Wright College. The system also oversees: the Washburne Culinary Institute, the French Pastry School, two restaurants, five Child Development Centers, the Center for Distance learning, the Workforce Institute, the public broadcast station WYCC-TV Channel 20 and radio station WKKC-FM 89.3FM.
Duties
This human resource position at?Kennedy King College is accountable for ensuring the
following policies and procedures are delivered efficiently and effectively: recruitment, selection and hiring; classification; payroll;
benefits; new employee orientation; labor relations; employee relations; training and development; personnel records and maintenance; and
management consulting.
Serves as a liaison to the District Office of Human Resources to administer policies and procedures.?Coordinates recruitment and hiring process including position advertising, application review, employment and education verification, background checks and completion of hiring package.?Utilizes technology as it relates to district wide systems, web sites and other CCC business processes.?Supervises staff responsible for preparing the payroll.?Advises administrators and other employees regarding human resource policies and procedures, performance and disciplinary issues.?Ensures and protects the confidentiality and maintenance of employee personnel files and employment records.?Evaluates the need for employee development training on district policies and procedures and provides same.?Reviews and submits accurate personnel transaction forms and employment contracts to District Office for processing. Communicates and disseminates timely information regarding benefits and other policies and procedures.?Troubleshoots and resolves problems for employees regarding employment, payroll, benefits, and retirement. Advises management on organizational development issues. Conducts new employee orientation at the College for all employees. Conducts business process review analyses and implements new procedures as necessary. Coordinates the employee performance evaluation process.
Performs other duties as assigned.
All CCC employees are required to adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for this position include completion of a Bachelors degree
from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Human Resources; Masters degree preferred;
supplemented by three to five years of generalist experience in recruitment, benefit/salary administration, position classification,
employee/labor relations, and training and development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work well in a culturally diverse environment.
Ability to handle all situations with diplomacy, tact, and the highest level of confidentiality.
Ability to use personal computers, with a thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and working knowledge of Access.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft and other HRMS, a plus.
