Mystery illness affects Mass. school football team

ATTLEBORO, Mass. ? State health officials are trying to pin down the source of a mystery illness that affected more than a dozen members of the Bishop Feehan High School football team, landing at least one player in the hospital.

A state Department of Public Health spokeswoman says stool samples have been taken from students affected.

The Sun Chronicle (http://bit.ly/153FWAb ) reports that about 15 of the Attleboro parochial school's players became ill after attending a social event Sunday for freshmen and the three captains of the varsity team. The gathering was held at a player's parents' home.

The stomach problems, including vomiting and diarrhea, developed Monday. The hospitalized student has since recovered.

The freshman football game between Bishop Feehan and Martha's Vineyard was canceled Monday because of the illnesses.
